This past weekend was the inaugural Quicksilver Watermen’s Festival. The brainchild of our own Jamie Mitchell, this event was a world class paddle race in a family friendly, fun atmosphere.
The crown jewel was Jamie’s innovative Survivor Format. A last man standing kind of race series that features five races in one. Competitors race an M course – not once but fives times. Between each race, competitors get a two minute rest period. This rest period starts when the first competitor crosses the finish line. Which means, if you are more then two minutes behind the first racer – you get no rest. This process continues as they eliminate competitors till they get a final race. It’s pretty brutal and I am pretty sure that anyone competing in these races (they did it for swimming, prone paddling and SUP) slept REALLY well that night.
Our own Mo Frietas proved once more that in technical surf racing he is the guy to beat. Mo repeated his dominating PPG performance by taking out almost every heat of the Survivor Series. Looking very fit and focused (No pun intended since he is sponsored by Focus Boards) he was able to handle the course and take full advantage of every rest period.
On the men’s side, we noticed something… Look at Mr. Sup Racer – Chris Parker’s results below… he added the mythical “Column I”
|9||Giorgio Gomez||17||16||15||9||x||Final 15||20||USA||Infinity||Quickblade||10.58|
|10||Leonard Nika||6||3||8||10||x||Final 15||29||Italy||Starboard||Starboard||9.40|
|11||Martin Letourneur||16||9||12||11||x||Final 15||20||France||Hobie||CT+||8.46|
|12||Lincoln Dews||9||5||9||12||x||Final 15||20||Australia||JM||Quickblade||7.52|
We thought it might be nice to add an internal “Column J” — what paddle did they actually use of ours… 6 of the top 12 paddlers were using QB paddles.. and even more striking...they all had the same type of QB paddle…the Trifecta!
here is how it broke down:
Mo Freitas – Trifecta 86
Toby Cracknell – Trifecta 86
Travis Grant – Trifecta 96
Titouan Puyo – Trifecta 86
Giorgio Gomez – Trifecta 86
Lincoln Dews – Vector Net Trifecta 86
The Quicksilver event we hope comes back next year. It was a fun fill day for everyone involved. Congrats to our whole team who made the trek, in some cases, across the globe to compete in the event.
